"Spring was just around the corner and I was craving the colour orange.
 
I was also very frustrated with my self and the lack of punching I had done all winter. However I should have cut myself some slack as we had just relocated from London to the country but in retrospect I hadn’t learned to be compassionate towards myself yet then.
 
I tried pre drawing the pattern on a piece of paper like I normally do but it wasn’t working for me so I decided to just go for it and draw directly on the fabric. This is quite risky because if I make a mistake, I cannot correct it if I am doing line punching. I think I held my breath the entire time I was drawing it but I did it, I finished it with no mistakes. I remember being so proud of myself but I also got a headache from the tension :).
 
I very much punch based on how I feel and I think at the time I just wanted to punch without having to think too much and so choosing this type of ombre thread was perfect and required minimal input from me. The beauty sort of happened.
 
I always try to reflect on what lessons I learned through a particular piece and maybe this piece was the beginning of me learning to give myself grace and compassion and if I need to just do some therapeutic punching in some orange thread to satisfy my colour craving sometime then that’s what I should just do."
