Dmc Colour Chart
The idea for this colour chart came to me a on a walk through my local park whilst I was living in London.

When I punch, I focus on the direction I punch to create unique hidden shapes that become visible when a light hits the luminous thread. This technique can alter the way my chosen thread colour appears in the end. This used to frustrate me because I would choose a colour which would end up looking completely different once I started punching it. I would waste a lot of time trying numerous colours to get the right effect.

I thought by creating a sample of each 500 colours that Dmc offers in their range of 6 stranded threads, I would have a quick reference before starting.
The beginning
I started by screenshoting each of the 500 colours and inputing their number and image into a spreadsheet. I thought I would print out all the colours and then begin to organise them in a way that I liked. In the end I chose to display them in order as trying to sort 500 colours was just too overwhelming and time consuming
The juicy middle
This processed allowed me to organise my thread so I began with the colours I had acquired over the last 3yrs. I would punch for hours and the progress was so little but luckily I have a lot of patience when it comes to punching because to me it's healing and I get to do all my 'thinking' then :)

Once I exhausted my stash, I had to get creative with sourcing more thread. I couldn't afford to buy it so I tried FB marketplace, scrap stores, etc. In the end I had to buy a fair amount myself with the money I made from selling punch needles
The end result
I am so happy with the results and this has been my most admired piece. It's turned out to be such a joy with all the beautiful luminous colours and I love looking at it as an artwork, not just a reference guide which it was initially supposed to be.

So has it helped with designing? YES! Absolutely as I can see the colours almost in 3D making the selection process a piece of cake

I am so proud of this that I am hoping to offer punching workshops where I can teach people how to produce one of these beauties for themselves
